Understanding open data doesn’t require reading this repo’s technical guides first — BetaNYC and partner organizations run recurring public classes that build the same foundational literacy for a general audience.

Core classes

Introduction to NYC Open Data

BetaNYC’s recurring digital literacy class, covering both NYC and NYS open data — what it is, where to find it, and how to start exploring it without a technical background.

Open Data Ambassadors Program

A program run by the NYC Mayor’s Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI), which BetaNYC supports — open-data classes delivered across all 51 City Council Districts, building open-data literacy at the neighborhood level.

A note on scope

This file intentionally stays narrow to open data literacy training. BetaNYC’s broader digital-literacy class catalog (AI 101, Mapping for Equity data classes, etc.) is out of scope here — see BetaNYC’s own program pages for the full catalog.
